We had an excellent first meet of the year!
Our goals for this meet were to rediscover racing (it’ a trainable skill), identify areas where we can improve, and get on the block and swim fast. I’d say we were 3 for 3.
We went into this meet knowing that we weren’t yet in mid-season shape, and we knew we’d be a bit rusty with our race preparation, starts, turns, and strategies. And yet we did remarkably well in all of those areas. Yes, we still need to improve, but we’re farther ahead than we expected. Well done to all!
We have 5 weeks until the next meet, and that will be enough time for us to further improve in all areas. Should be exciting.
Here’s a note on the meet from Coach Aimee
Wow! What a great first meet the “13 and Under Group” had this weekend! There were too many personal best swims to mention them all. I continue to be impressed by how the MTAC swimmers conduct themselves and represent our team at meets. We have a whole season ahead of us to fine tune our swims to help achieve personal bests and goals. This meet reminds us to practice the things we learned from this meet.
One of my goals for the swimmers this season is articulated by this Fred Rogers quote “There’s a world of difference between insisting on someone’s doing something and establishing an atmosphere in which that person can grow into wanting to do it”
